One early response to the dictatorial regime and mass human rights violations in Chile emerged from religious bodies and a range of professionals from whom victims sought help. This was a moral and ethical rather than a politically or ideologically motivated response to the needs and rights of victims. It constituted a form of direct resistance to oppression while also providing a basis for documenting and remembering these experiences and the political repression. This moral and ethical resistance to impunity also provides a foundation for pursuing peaceful coexistence in Chile today.
